Every year, billions are lost to cross border payments fees worldwide. If we look at the next billion in emerging markets: Africans alone lose ~$8bn annually, with 7-8% lost in fees. Asia, the largest remittance-receiving region, over $300bn is sent home each year, yet fees exceed $12bn, and real-time payment options remain limited. In 2021 this global challenge inspired us to build a better solution. We began in Africa, the most expensive continent to send money to, and have expanded to Asia and beyond, addressing the needs of emerging markets that account for 45% of global remittances. At NALA we decided to prioritise two goals: reducing the cost and increasing reliability for sending money. We partner with governments to acquire licences, which in turn, these enable us to build innovative products and services, unlocking faster, safer, and more affordable cross-border payments. The issues with global payments are stark. With deep expertise in cross-border and local payments, we’re building solutions for emerging markets where the need is greatest.
