Evaluate, deploy, monitor, and maintain the latest generation of proof-of-stake blockchain networks

Role overview

Overview

We are looking for a network engineer interested in distributed ledger technology to build, improve, and scale our physical and cloud-based proof-of-stake validation infrastructure. As a blockchain reliability engineer, you will work with us in evaluating, deploying, monitoring, maintaining, and upgrading consensus & validation nodes on the most novel and experimental blockchain networks.

This role offers the chance to work closely with a small team on compelling cross-disciplinary problems in computer science, cryptography, and economics, and enjoy a high degree of independence in working conditions and prioritisation.

Responsibilities

  • Keep track, evaluate, and provide insights into and analysis of novel proof-of-stake distributed ledger protocols
  • Build, improve, maintain, and upgrade our validator software and hardware infrastructure
  • Deploy blockchain consensus nodes in testnets and mainnets, monitor proactively for performance bottlenecks and unusual behaviour, optimize performance in production
  • Monitor network traffic and configure physical & virtual minimal-permission access control for fault isolation
  • Automate and scale infrastructure configuration as networks grow

Qualifications

  • Experience with administrating Linux systems and with configuration management (Ansible, Terraform, Docker)
  • Experience with cloud platform services and tooling (GCP, AWS)
  • Experience with metrics collection and monitoring
  • Working understanding of TCP/IP network stack
  • Online availability for unforeseen remotely-fixable issues
  • Travel availability when necessary for in-person fixes
  • Self-motivated & self-organised (expect minimal management)

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior experience and interest in blockchain technology
  • Experience in building and scaling distributed, highly available systems
  • Experience in deploying and scaling high-performance database software
  • Interest in and experience with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs)

Misc.

Competitive compensation in a negotiable mix of salary and equity.

Remote or local (Zürich/Zug, Berlin). When remote, located in Central Europe.

Ideally someone who enjoys nature and hiking.

Cryptium Labs is a multi-network research and engineering team. We deploy cutting-edge research to improve the capability and efficiency of distributed protocols. We envision a future proof-of-stake blockchain ecosystem without the externalities or limitations of proof-of-work, where heterogeneous blockchains serving a wide variety of application use-cases coexist and interoperate seamlessly. Cryptium Labs started as a proof-of-stake validator with focus on security. We currently operate a live Tezos baker, Cosmos, IrisNetwork, and run testnets on Polkadot and NuCypher. We envision a secure, interoperable, and heterogenous blockchain ecosystem, and plan to help facilitate this by skeptically evaluating, continuously monitoring, and frequently upgrading existing blockchain protocols.
